After a great opening game between Brazil v Croatia, the pace of the tournament was set in fine form. Neymar faced his critics head on by scoring twice and firmly bolstering his position in the standings for top goalscorer of the tournament. Early days still of course, although a performance he will no doubt take an incredible amount of confidence from.
We’ve also seen the destruction of a Spanish side that has achieved international greatness and who are looking for a consecutive back to back World Cup tournament win. The Spaniards falling at the hands of a prolific Dutch side, where the score ended 4-1.
England, who have been tipped by many as potential final candidates also fell in their first game to Italy in a 2-1 defeat, meaning the three lions face a must win game in their next match against Uruguay, who may or may not have an in-form Luis Suarez back in the side following his surgery post Premier League season.
Overall so far, we’ve not seen many (if any) boring games so far, or games ending in a draw. This gives us a lot to look forward as we progress through the tournament.
