The IPL is over, finally, and it was an exceptional one with a lot of great performances from the likes of Virat Kohli, David Warner and Mustafizur Rahman. But what about those that failed to perform? The high profile players, of whom much was expected, but who only flattered to deceive?
Let’s have a quick look at the worst players of IPL 2016.
- Shreyas Iyer
Iyer was the top run-getter for his team, the Delhi Daredevils in IPL 2015. He made 439 runs in 14 games that season. But this time, Iyer was a complete failure, making just 30 runs in six matches at a strike rate of 69.76. Iyer also had three ducks to his credit.
- Chris Gayle
Gayle had a poor IPL by his standards and only made 227 runs in 10 games at an average of 22.70. He was actually dropped from the side, which is something that never happens to him. To his credit, he did well in the final and almost won the IPL 2016 for his side. But that wasn’t to be.
- David Miller
David Miller was made captain at the start of the IPL 2016 by Kings XI Punjab. But his performance as both a batsman and a captain were so poor that he lost his captaincy after only 6 games. He was a major disappointment.

- Glenn Maxwell
Glenn Maxwell was one of the worst foreign players of the IPL. He made a couple of fifties, both in matches that his side lost. He was dropped and eventually went home with a side strain.
- Deepak Hooda
Deepak Hooda played 17 games in the IPL, and no one knows why. He made just 144 runs at 10.28 and was a major disappointment. He was the worst performer in an exceptional Sunrisers Hyderabad side.
- Hardik Pandya
Hardik Pandya has been a regular member of the Indian T20 side, having played the last 16 T20Is for the country. He had a huge reputation to live up to and misfired spectacularly. His batting average was 6.28 and he didn’t do much with the ball, picking up 4 wickets at 82.25.
- Pawan Negi
Pawan Negi was bought by Daredevils for Rs. 8.5 crore, which now looks like a ridiculous amount of money to pay for a very average player. He made only 57 runs with the bat and took one wicket. He is out of the Indian team as well.
- James Faulkner
James Faulkner came to the IPL with a big reputation but had a forgettable tournament. His economy rate was a very high 9.82 and he was the most expensive bowler for his side. He was eventually dropped.
- Mitchell Johnson
Mitchell Johnson has retired from international cricket and was supposed to be fresh for the IPL. But he did precious little, taking just two wickets at an economy rate of 9.63 from three matches before getting dropped.
- Mohammed Shami
Mohammed Shami was a major disappointment for the Delhi Daredevils, taking just five wickets in eight games at an economy rate of 9.69. The only good thing about him in this IPL was his snazzy haircut!
- Karn Sharma
Sharma was the worst performer in the Sunriers Hyderabad bowling attack and had an economy rate of 10.46 runs. It is a mystery as to why he played so many matches for them, despite not being up to the mark. Still, the Sunrisers won the IPL, no thanks to Karn.
