It’s been an exciting Test series so far, and at 1-1, may go either way. The series has been a mixed bag as far as the performance of Indian players is concerned. We rate the performance of all the Indian players who have played at least 1 Test match in the series.
Shikhar Dhawan: 1/10
It has been a disastrous tour for Dhawan, who has firmly established himself as James Anderson’s bunny, getting out to him several times for low scores. It is more than likely that captain MS Dhoni has had enough and will be replacing him with his fellow Delhi teammate, Gautam Gambhir.
Murali Vijay: 9/10
Vijay has been the undoubted star of he entire series for India, having already made a huge hundred at Trent Bridge and a crucial match winning 95 at Lord’s. It’s not Vijay’s fault that he hasn’t received any support from his opening partner, but he has always held his end, left alone everything outside the offstump and yet kept the scoreboard moving. India’s best player by far.
Cheteshwar Pujara: 5/5
The series has been quite poor by Pujara’s high standards and he would be very disappointed with his performance. Pujara always seems to get starts and stays at the crease for quite a while, but gets out just when it’s time to convert a start into a significant score. Pujara is undoubtedly India’s best Test batsman and is indispensable to the team, but he must score the big hundreds we all know that he is capable of, if India are to win this series.
Virat Kohi: 1/10
Kohli has been a complete disaster so far. As a popular joke goes on Twitter, you might as well replace Kohli with his girlfriend, the Bollywood star Anushka Sharma in the middle, and it would hardly make a difference. Kohli prides himself on his performance, so he would be more disappointed than anyone else.
Ajinkya Rahane: 8/10
Along with Vijay, another star performer for India. His hundred at Lord’s was critical in rescuing India from a batting disaster and in posting a credible first innings score. He has been very consistent throughout the series, but would be disappointed at gifting his wicket to Moeen Ali in the first innings at Southampton.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni: 4/10
Dhoni has just one good score in the entire series of 82, but other than that, on English tracks helpful to seamers, he has been a fish out of water. Obviously Dhoni is not really a Test class batsman in bowler friendly conditions, but he gets extra points for his brilliant captaincy at Lord’s.
Rohit Sharma: 1/10
Sharma was very poor at Southampton and gifted his wicket away to the off spinner. Not good.
Stuart Binny: 2/10
He did make a decent score of 78 on debut, but failed at every other chance, and really, doesn’t look like a player who can last at this level.
Ravindra Jadeja: 7/10
Jadeja has been good sporadically with both the bat and the ball. His 68 at Lord’s won the match put India in a strong position and his bowling has been decent, without being spectacular.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar: 7/10
Kumar did play very well with both the bat and the ball in the first two Tests, in the last Test, his performance really deteriorated. He looks completely exhausted by his efforts and rumors are that he is unfit to play at Old Trafford in the next match.
Ishant Sharma: 9/10
Won the historic Lord’s Test for India, bounced out the English batsman, and is India’s only bowler who poses any threat. Missed out on the Southampton Test because of an injury. His fitness is critical to India’s success in this series and they will be hoping that he comes back soon.
Mohammad Shami: 2/10
Down on pace, lacks in confidence, really, Shami is not good enough to play Test cricket for India.
Pankaj Singh: 3/10
Bowled his heart out at Southampton, and still ended up with the worst bowling figures in the history of Test cricket for a bowler on his Test debut.Very unlucky.
