The Indian cricket team has arrived in Bangladesh for the ODIs in Bangladesh between 15th and 19th June 2014. Surprisingly an under-strength India is playing minnows Bangladesh.
Suresh Raina will lead the side and Gautam Gambhir has been handed a recall ahead of the tour of England as the heavyweight seniors MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will take a break following the ICC World Twenty20 and Indian Premier League. As well as maverick Ravindra Jadeja is also rested
Manoj Tiwary and Robin Uthappa have been recalled while Kedhar Jadhav, Akshar Patel and Parvez Rasool will aim to make ther ODI debuts.
And following a century in the final of the IPL for the Kings XI Punjab, Wriddhiman Saha is given an opportunity to lay a claim as Dhoni’s understudy in all formats.
This will be India’s first ODI tour of Bangladesh since 2007, although the sides have met in ODIs at both the 2011 World Cup and the 2012 and 2014 Asia Cups in the last three years.
India won the last encounter between the two teams by six wickets while Bangladesh’s last victory came in 2012, when Sachin Tendulkar’s 100th international century was not enough for India.
India are currently third in the ODI rankings behind Australia and Sri Lanka and are expected to beat Bangladesh even with a weakened squad.
However, they then face a much sterner test when they head to England following this short series.
