British Tennis fans received a bit of a blow today when hearing that Heather Watson has crashed out of the Australian Open. The number one ranked British woman has bowed out of the competition early leaving just Andy Murray to fight for the Brits.
The challenge for Watson was to pass the Bulgarian Number one, Tsvetana Pironkova. In terms of WTA titles it was 2-1 Watson, however none of this mattered in this match whilst Pironkova eased to victory 6-4, 6-0.
Having been eliminated from the tournament by Pironkova, Watson told press afterwards that her courtside doctor had in fact told her to trust her instincts whilst playing through injury. This was in reference to an injury Heather Watson had suffered prior to starting the Aussie Open.
The Australian Open continues, and is set to be played until the 01st February.
